North Adelaide Dog Park, Adelaide

A dog park so loved that it draws not only locals but also people from across town. With lots of space, it features separate sections for ‘small dogs’ and ‘all dogs’. The area is fully fenced and there are doggy tunnels and tubes so you can rest easy and chat, knowing your dogs are safely socialising and getting their exercise in too. For evening play, there’s a button at the entrance that you can push for 30 minutes of light.

ADELAIDE

The best park for: Play dates for dogs while their owners catch up. Must-dos: Take your dog through the obstacle course for their engagement and your enjoyment. Amenities: Fences, drinking fountains, bowls, bins and bags.

Watch out for: A visible Dog Registration Disc is required for 4-legged visitors to show they’ve been registered and vaccinated. Make sure you’re in the right section for your dog’s size too. Hidden gem: A series of hoops that are perfect for training.

Clayton Reserve, Melbourne

This lively inner-city spot might be Melbourne’s friendliest dog park. It’s a great place for your pet to make friends, while you pass the time sitting and watching a motley crew of dogs run themselves ragged around the enclosure. Close proximity to Melbourne’s CBD means this large, fenced park is packed from sun-up to sundown.

The best park for: Socialising your dog. Must-dos: Visit at peak hour – between 5 pm and 6 pm – to meet a wide array of dogs who call Melbourne home. Amenities: Fences, drinking fountains, bowls, bins and bags. Watch out for: Escapees as you enter or exit the busy park. Hidden gem: Large, shaded bench seats where you can sit and watch the fun unfold.

John Turnbull Oval, Hobart

The best park for: All-in-one off-leash social, mental and physical enrichment. Must-dos: Spend an hour or two here so your dog can dig, sniff, train and experience all the areas. Amenities: Double gate entry, agility course, sandpit, water fountains, bowls, bins and bags. Watch out for: Visibility in the evenings as there is minimal lighting.

This is Hobart’s state-of the-art dog park with 2 fully fenced sections for puppies/small dogs and all dogs, and Mount Wellington overlooking all the play. The bigger section is divided into four different areas: a mulched agility course, a sandpit, a gravelled area with logs and rocks, and a shaded mulch section with boulders and seating.

Hidden gem: A little birdy (Google Maps) told us that one of the mulched areas has been shaped to look like a bone from the air, just another thoughtful touch to this first-rate dog park.
