Treating pets like any other member of the family has reached a new high in Australia, with the majority of dog and cat owners now more concerned about a healthy diet for their pets than for themselves. New Ivory Coat research also found 73% of dog and cat owners are paying more attention to their pet’s mental and physical health than ever before. However, they are unsure how much attention to pay when their pets become unwell. Over two thirds of dog and cat owners are unsure of whether a change in their pet’s health is vet-worthy. The survey interviewed over 1,000 people across all capital cities and also found the following: Almost 9 out of 10 dog owners have enjoyed spending more time outside since getting a dog. Close to two-thirds (64%) of Australians feel guiltier skipping their dog’s walk than if they skipped their own exercise. Nearly 75% of respondents have a dog and 49% have a cat.
